We recommend backing up the entire Windows machine periodically in case of server failure as the standard approach. Otherwise, the following section will cover the most important files to backup to protect against data loss.
To back up the system data to protect against data loss, the following should be backed up periodically:
APS System Service
This service is the most critical for PlanetTogether to run. Therefore, it is typically good practice to back up the data every few weeks, although PlanetTogether does keep recordings and other backup methods on its own.
C:\ProgramData\PlanetTogether APS\Software\<Version Number>\ProgramFiles\System
APS Interface Service
Because of the new method of deploying PlanetTogether, many of these files are static due to the new ability to run multiple instances and multiple versions of PlanetTogether concurrently. The working directory for the other services not directly related to the APS System Service is held, not in the instance folders, but the software folder, found below:
C:ProgramData\PlanetTogether APS\Software\<Version Number>\ProgramFiles\Interface
Folders to Backup
APS ExtraServices Working Directory, typically
C:ProgramData\PlanetTogether APS\<Instance Name>\System\Data
- Alerts Folder: Contains all log files
- Key Folder: Contains License Key files
- Recordings Folder: Stores the recording of all actions performed in PlanetTogether. This can be used for data recovery, debugging, and testing.
- Scenario Folder: Stores your scenarios.dat file, which contains all scenario data, including API configuration.
Configuration Data Storage & Recovery
Configuration data is stored in the scenarios.dat file. A copy of that file is saved in the Recordings folder every 15 minutes while activity occurs. Once present in the Recordings folder, the copy of the scenarios.dat will have a timestamp added to the file name.
If a server unexpectedly goes down, we recommend restoring the most recent scenarios.dat file in the Recordings folder. This will be more up-to-date than the file found in the Scenario folder, as this version only gets updated when the services are stopped.
The working directory that holds the configuration for the Data Mapping Wizard, however, can still be found local to each instance at
C:ProgramData\PlanetTogether APS\<Instance Name>\IntegrationFiles
Server Manager Config File
APS_ServerSettings.xml contains all instance information for Enterprise Client.
