Add Cycles to Operations

How to extend the number of cycles on scheduled activities.

Key Concepts

In some manufactures, resource utilization is such a major factor that it is preferable to have excess inventory than have the resource be idle. For this reason, there is an option to add cycles to operations in PlanetTogether to fill out the excess capacity. PlanetTogether will attempt to fit as many operations cycles up to the chosen end without going over the interval. If you want to be more approximate, it is best yo use a smaller operation cycle time.

Cycles can be added by right-clicking an activity block on the Gantt and selecting one of the options listed in the "Add Cycles to" option.

Below are the different ways Cycles can be added:

  • End near the end of First Capacity Interval Used: This adds as many operation cycles as it can between the current activity end date and the end of the first capacity interval containing the start date of the activity.

Note: If the Operation spans more than one Capacity Interval, this option will shorten the Operation to end at the end of the first Capacity Interval the Operation is scheduled for.

  • End near the end of Last Capacity Interval Used: This will add as many operation cycles as it can between the current activity end date and the end of the first capacity interval containing the end date of the activity.
  • End near the Start of next Offline Interval: This will add as many operation cycles as it can between the current activity end date and the start of the next Offline interval on this resource. If no Offline Intervals are found on this resource, a warning message will appear and no cycles will be added.
  • End near the Start of next Cleanout Interval on this Resource: This will ass as many operation cycles as possible between the current activity end date and the start of the next cleanout interval on the resource. If no Cleanout intervals are found on this resource, a warning message will appear and no cycles will be added.
  • End near the Start of next Activity on this Resource: This will add as many operation cycles as it can between the current activity end date and the start of the next activity scheduled on the resource. If no more activities are found on this resource, a warning message will appear.
  • Fill capacity before the start of the next Cleanout Interval: This will add operation cycles to fill the capacity interval until a Cleanout Interval is reached.
  • Fill capacity before the start of the next Offline Interval: This will add operation cycles to fill the capacity interval until an Offline Interval is reached.
