More than 4,500 companies in 88 countries use Preactor in almost every business sector, from manufacturing to logistics. When Europe's largest engineering company acquired Preactor in 2013, the primary question in the manufacturing industry was: "What kind of impact will this have on operations?"

Preactor

Established in 1984, Preactor International (PI) specializes in planning and production scheduling software. Between 1988 and 1993, an extensive joint development project under the European EUREKA initiative developed Preactor, the company's flagship advanced planning and scheduling software. Research and Development receives a portion of its revenues to continue adapting the product to changing demands.

This extensive development program ensures that existing users stay up-to-date with the latest proven technologies. Now in its 11th version, this top of the line planning software stands out in international markets. PI offers implementation and software support through their network of vendors and system suppliers across the globe.

Siemens

A multinational powerhouse, Siemens specializes in the areas of electronics, automation, and digitization. They produce energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, as well as supply systems for power generation and transmission. Siemens plays a pioneering role in infrastructure and industry solutions. As of September 2014, Siemens had over 343,000 employees in more than 20 countries. In the 2014 fiscal year, they generated revenues of $82.2 billion from continuing operations.

An Appropriate Acquisition

Thanks to the acquisition, Preactor's APS software solution added significant new components to Siemens' operations management. According to Anton S. Huber, CEO of Siemens Division Industry Automation, by acquiring the Preactor Group,

"Siemens further expands its international lead in the industry software market. The solutions supplied by Preactor ideally complement our manufacturing execution system product portfolio. With the Preactor Group, we are gaining a team of specialists with a proven track record as a preferred supplier and service provider for APS solutions the world over."

Siemens plans to offer Preactor's APS software worldwide in their efforts to position themselves as a global partner backed by worldwide presence and support. Siemens now owns one of the top APS software companies in the industry, effectively cutting costs while opening up a new revenue stream due to their placement in a new market.
